Tlalli

This is a very special personal project! My very good friend Bonita and I wanted to make a character together, so we ideated, and she concepted Tlalli, the cactus farmer! I had a blast modeling her and refining some of my skills when it comes to stylized character art. It was a great chance to take what I learned from Deera and apply it for a better model in the end. I think I've better streamlined my process and am getting the hang of seeing potential pitfalls before they occur so that I can plan ahead. Giving another rig a shot was fun too, and a little less daunting than Deera's. Bonita also made the eye textures, so that was a fun detail to have. I'm super pleased with how it came out, and already excited to move onto the next thing!

Tlalli's hair is actually entirely separate from her head. The geometry slightly overlaps so that her hairline is masked opacity, and all of the high poly forms are baked onto the cap as normals. There's no wasted polys or UV space.

A lot of the backpack's UVs are mirrored and overlapping for efficiency, and it was a challenge to balance subtle weathering so it didn't appear too repetitive.
